The Impact of Artisanal Mining on Career Development of Adolescents in Zimbabwe

The research explored the impact of artisanal mining on career development adolescents at three selected schools in Imbizo District, Bulawayo Metropolitan Province. Interpretivism philosophy was employed study, and a qualitative method used. phenomenological design adopted for study. sample comprised fifteen school children aged between 14 to 20 years, six teachers were from district province, Zimbabwe, using purposive sampling. Due COVID-19 regulations, interviews telephonically, focus group discussions conducted online. Interviews used collect data children, while teachers. findings revealed that causes child involvement include influence society, poverty, drugs, adventure outbreak. brought undesirable behavioural traits such as anti-social behaviour, poor academic performance, health safety risks different forms abuse. Strategies suggested by mitigate illegal encompassed legalising small-scale mines, life skills education, educational support all vulnerable community awareness campaigns, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) government involvement. could help providing them with basic needs like food paying their stationery.
